Technology in Primary CareSure, there are some new diagnostic and treatment technologies useful for primary care medicine, but what really excites me are the internet-based technologies to enhance communication between doctor and patient, and that enable the patient to become as educated as possible about their condition and potential treatments.Secure Server: Utilizing a secure server, I can post results of your blood tests, x-rays, etc., for your access - at your convenience. Through this system you can link to related web sites or respond with any questions you might have, and get my reply later - all without playing phone-tag! If you are trying a new blood pressure medication, I prefer that you monitor your blood pressure at home and notify me of the results, rather then your having an unnecessary visit. If needed I can notify you of recommended adjustments in medication. This server is compliant with new privacy rules - it is password protected and only you and I can access your information.Utilizing a system developed by Microsoft, you can actually go online to schedule an appointment. You can see what is available and determine what works best for YOUR schedule! It is simple - and - the system will send you an e-mail reminder of your visit ahead of time! This saves us resources best allocated for your care, and avoids your spending time on hold!Obviously, we all have to be rational with our use of the internet. If you have an urgent problem, or are not sure, call us! If you have a real urgent problem, like chest pain or shortness of breath, call 911! Will this system work perfectly? Gee, I hope so, but these systems are new, and we may find a few bugs, but the overall effort is to make life better for all of us! |
